The Most Prevalent Cause Of Weak Bones And Joints Is Nutritional Deficiency – Protect YourSelf From Osteoporosis And Rejuvenate Your Bone And Joint Health…

As we grow older, it is a sad fact that a large percentage of adults will suffer from bone density loss as they age. Unfortunately, this can lead to such things like fractures, hip replacements and people having to use certain equipment to get through each day.
Various studies have shown that a hip replacement can lead to a premature death, especially in the more elderly. The trauma of a broken hip can cause side effects like pneumonia, which can leave many people, even younger adults, so weak that they just don’t have enough strength left to fight off this illness.
If you don’t know already, the best thing you can do to optimize and protect your overall bone health and skeletal source is to maintain a quality daily dose of high quality calcium in your daily diet. It is suggested by various health professionals that one should intake an additional calcium source to stop calcium being removed from your bones.
However, not all calcium is created equal and many calcium supplements have shown that they do not contain all of the much needed co-factors to ensure that they will not pass through the body unused. It takes certain ingredients that all need to work together for calcium to truly do its job effectively. We will look at this further below but first there are some considerations:
You, the consumer, needs to ask questions when it comes to the purity of Calcium formulas, these considerations apply to all Calcium supplements
What are the benefits of consuming Calcium?
If you consume the best natural type of calcium, there can be many health benefits. The best calcium that can help strengthen and protect your skeletal system is known as Okinawan Coral Calcium. This specific type of calcium is a pure sourced, environmentally-friendly calcium that can benefit your skeletal health by providing your bones with the nutrient they truly need for optimal health. However, it is not just calcium that will give you optimal bone and joint health. There are other, proven ingredients that work synergistically to give the following benefits when combined with Coral Calcium:
• Increase calcium absorption and transportation in the blood • Decrease risk of cartilage damage and fracture • Help to prevent osteoporosis • Decrease oxidative stress, and • Preserve overall bone health.
Let’s now take a look at these ingredients and how they help to promote optimal bone health
The most effective calcium formulas should contain essential vitamins and minerals that are known for their bone health properties. When used together with Coral calcium, this can produce a powerful, potent cocktail that can give you the health benefits you deserve.
A quality Calcium formula should contain:
Vitamin K2, the most potent and natural form of Vitamin K with preventative properties against risk of fractures. The formula should also contain specific combinations of Magnesium, Vitamin C, D3, Boron, Piperine, Lycopene, Strontium, and Mangosteen. Mangosteen contains powerful Xanthone antioxidants that have been shown to inhibit Cox II enzymes (responsible for inflammation, swelling and pain).
Let’s delve further in to each of these ingredients and how they can help with bone health:
Vitamin K2
Vitamin K2 is the most beneficial for bone health maximization. Vitamin K2 can prevent fractures and combined with vitamin D and calcium, has been used primarily as treatment or prevention of osteoporosis.
Magnesium
Magnesium is, without a doubt, a valuable component of an antiaging conscious, longevity minded health regimen.
Magnesium helps maintain normal levels of potassium, phosphorus, calcium, adrenaline and insulin, and keeps the bones strong and the heart healthy.
Magnesium is essential for the development and maintenance of healthy bones. If taken in relatively high amounts, it works together with calcium and vitamin D to help keep bones strong and prevent osteoporosis.
Vitamin C
Vitamin C serves many roles. It is a potent anti-oxidant, an anti-inflammatory agent, anti-viral, and immune stimulant. Studies have shown that vitamin c, combined with vitamin D and magnesium can help with bone health.
Vitamn D3
Vitamin D3 is a naturally occurring bodily substance that many believe to exert a protective effect in multiple sclerosis - both in the development of the disease and in limiting its progression. It is naturally produced in the skin in response to sunlight but is also present in certain foodstuffs (particularly oily fish). It is also available as a dietary supplement from health food stores.
Strictly speaking, because your body can produce it, Vitamin D3 isn't a vitamin. It's a type of steroid hormone and among other things, a powerful mediator of immune function.
D3 is best known for its effects on calcium metabolism. Proper levels are necessary to maintain bone mineral density and serum (blood) calcium levels. This is especially true among the elderly where it used with vitamin A for the treatment of osteoporosis, and also, post menopausal women who are often subject to fractures due to loss of bone density.
Boron
Boron is a trace mineral and its therapeutic benefits include healthy bones and proper brain functioning.
Boron plays a major role in helping to prevent osteoporosis by helping build and maintain healthy bones. It helps reduce the loss of calcium and magnesium in the urine, which is needed to help build strong bones. Boron elevates levels of serum estrogen and ionized calcium (important because women who develop osteoporosis have low levels of these).
Lycopene
Lycopene is present in many fruits and vegetables. It is a red, fat-soluble pigment found in certain plants and microorganisms, where it serves as an accessory light-gathering pigment and protects these organisms against the toxic effects of oxygen and light. Research also suggests that lycopene may aid blood pressure and bone health.
Strontium
Some trace elements closely chemically related to calcium, such as strontium have pharmacological effects on bone when present at levels higher than those required for normal cell physiology. The human body contains approximately 320 to 400 mg of strontium in bone, and connective tissue.
If we look at clinical studies, indeed, strontium was found to exert several effects on bone cells. In addition to its antiresorptive activity, strontium was found to have anabolic activity in bone, and thus may have significant beneficial effects on bone balance in normal and osteopenic animals. Accordingly, strontium has been thought to have potential in the treatment of osteoporosis.

Alarming Statistic
10 million Americans already suffer from osteoporosis, and another 34 million have lower bone mass than normal, mainly caused by a deficiency in calcium. |
|
“In a three-year, randomized, double-blind, placebo controlled study using 680 milligrams of strontium daily, women suffering from osteoporosis experienced a 41 percent reduction in risk of a vertebral fracture, compared with placebo. And, overall vertebrae density in the strontium group increased by 11.4 percent but there was a 1.3 percent decrease in the placebo group.”
“In a second study, 353 women who had suffered at least one vertebral fracture due to osteoporosis took varying levels of a prescription medication for of strontium referred to as strontium ranelate or a placebo. The women who took 680 milligrams of strontium daily had an increase in lumbar bone mineral density of approximately 3 percent per year, significantly greater than placebo. By the second year of the study, there was a significant decrease in additional fractures in the strontium group as compared with the placebo group.”
These studies, and the history of strontium in medical practice were discussed as an editorial in the New England Journal of Medicine, January 29th, 2004.
Mangosteen
Mangosteen extract is a wonderful antibacterial and anti-inflammatory product. Several studies prove mangosteen extract to be beneficial to your overall health. It has medicinal properties as well.
Take mangosteen extract on a daily basis to improve your appetite, bone structure, skin condition, purify the blood, and improve your circulation. It will also strengthening your heart.
Mangosteen extract is a great natural product for those who refuse to take anything with chemical substances in it. In fact, experts recommend having your body detoxified yearly. The mangosteen extract will help your body lose all the toxins, leaving you feeling rejuvenated.
Piperine
Pioerine – this is a substance that helps all of these other nutrients work together, and also, helps them produce their best therapeutic effects. Piperine is an alkaloid that is found in spikes on the plant called peppercorns.
The ingredients should all be compatible with each other
The interactions of the above ingredients should be carefully researched at molecular level to ensure complete compatibility and bioavailability. This will make the calcium formula as 'active' as possible for optimum results.
Coral Calcium and Osteoporosis
You will have likely heard of osteoporosis, especially if you’re a middle-aged woman or know an older female friend or family member. The fact is it’s a devastating disease, with crippling effects that strikes millions of Americans and Britain’s – and contrary to many belief systems, men also get this disease and this is becoming more and more common each year.
So, What Exactly Is This Condition?
Osteoporosis, basically means bones that are hollow. To be honest, it is just that, literally your bones gradually become hollow over time to the point where there is literally no more bone mass left.
The fact is if you’re not getting enough calcium in your daily diet, after a while your body will resort to using the reserved calcium that is stored in your bones and teeth. Your body does this in order to make up for the shortfall.
What’s worrying here is that slowly and silently your teeth and bones will start to become more and more brittle and much less dense over time.
You may also experience much more tooth decay than normal.
Bone Brittleness Is One Of The Scary Parts...
When your bones are healthy, they are normally strong enough to withstand the pressures of everyday life, such as a slip, fall, or some form of knock to your bones. Sadly, once you have osteoporosis, that knock or fall could potentially fracture one or more of your brittle bones. Such fractures can lead to hospitalization and even death!
Are You At Risk For Osteoporosis?
You may be thinking that Osteoporosis is a condition only women have to suffer, or an illness only older people have to worry about or go through.
However, from our detailed research and studies over the last few years on this condition and bone health as a whole, we have learnt that 10 million Americans already suffer from osteoporosis, and another 34 million have lower bone mass than normal, mainly caused by a deficiency in calcium. What this means is that these people are at a huge risk of developing osteoporosis later on in their life. According to National Institutes of Health statistics, 50% of all women have a fracture related to osteoporosis during their lifetime!
We have learnt that it is true that Osteporosis is often diagnosed in the elderly; however, the actual start of the condition can happen much sooner than most people realize. It takes a long time for the calcium deficiency to build up to the point where one loses all their bone mass and they practically become hollow.
At any age in your life, not receiving enough calcium in your diet can mean that your body is using the sources stored in your bones and teeth to survive.
And.. as for this devastating condition being a woman only disease, we have learnt some shocking truths according to some factual statistics. Woman are indeed four times more likely than men to develop this condition, however, around 1/5 of the 10 million Americans with this known condition are men.
So as you can see, men can get osteoporosis too -- and as we have learnt, in fairly large numbers too.
You’re also at a much heightened risk for this crippling condition if you smoke daily, drink in large quantities, have a very poor diet, and get very little exercise.
The Best Way Of Avoiding Osteoporosis...
The best way to avoid osteoporosis is to work towards building bones that are healthy, especially when you are younger. To be honest, we have learnt that if you can try and maintain and build bone health before the age of 30, you stand a much better chance of steering away from this condition.
Let’s take a look at the two main reasons why osteoporosis occurs:
1. If you don't have strong enough bone mass before the age of 30, it is very likely that you will suffer from this condition in some form.
2. After the age of 30, if you lose bone mass to quickly, this can cause osteoporosis to occur.
The fact is, just about everyone loses bone mass as they grow older, that is part of life and part of growing old.
However, there are steps you can take that will enable you to build strong healthy bones and potentially prevent the onset of this condition. We have learnt through our detailed and dedicated research that for most people, osteoporosis is a preventable illness.
Preventing Osteoporosis
The National Osteoporosis Foundation suggests that you can build and maintain optimal bone health and strength by:
1. Eating a well balanced diet and consuming lots of calcium and vitamin D daily.
2. Living as healthily as possible with limited intake of alcohol, no smoking and plenty of weekly exercise.
3. Getting regular bone density tests and taking any recommended actions that your doctor suggests.
As we can see, having calcium in your daily diet is very important. For most people that ask us, we recommend coral calcium for the best possible source of calcium. However, not just any type of calcium.
You see, there is a lot of negativity surrounding coral calcium and for good reason. The most popular type of coral calcium purchased over the counter and across the internet is marine coral calcium. Such calcium is rendered pretty much useless because it is very hard for your bones to absorb and can easily end up in your soft tissues. This can lead to arthritis and even heart disease after a while!
The problem is, there are a lot of nutritional supplements being sold that don’t have qualified professionals putting enough time, research and effort in to producing their supplements. Sadly, most people are more interested in making profit than actually helping people achieve better health.
It’s ironic because if many companies put the time and effort in to producing quality natural supplements that had been scientifically researched from the molecular level, they would end up with repeat customers over and over again, due to the improvements people would see on their health and overall lifestyle.
The Coral calcium we personally use and for good reason, happens to be much more bio-available than other supplements or dietary calcium. Since fossilized coral calcium is ionic, it gets into your bloodstream faster and more easily, and because of this - your body can send the calcium directly to where it needs to go for it to build bone strength and health, or replenish bone calcium deficits.
As we mentioned above, if you consume calcium supplements that are not ionic (such as marine coral calcium), they don't get absorbed by your bones as easily and can end up in your soft tissues. In the end, this can cause arthritis and eventually, even heart disease.
Now, a word about Vitamin D. Vitamin D is vital to achieve the proper therapeutic benefits from calcium. Vitamin D comes from many sources such as milk, cod liver oil, fish, and shellfish -- but we have learnt that you do have to make sure you get at least some sun for the Vitamin D to be activated and work together with the calcium in your body.
Because of this, we suggest and advise that people consume coral calcium supplements that contain Vitamin D to help with calcium absorption, thus, giving the best possible therapeutic benefits. You can check out what we use here if you like, before you go through the rest of our detailed information on osteoporosis, calcium, and coral calcium as a whole.
We strongly beleive that this particular formula is the best coral calcium for your money. The supplement we use for optimal bone health contains Vitamin D and is the coral calcium supplement we take every day and have done for over 3 years.
Treating and Reversing Osteoporosis
If you already suffer from osteporosis, you should always consult with your personal doctor. Following the guidelines we discussed above by the National Osteoporosis foundation can help treat the condition.
When you have injuries when you suffer from osteoporosis, you may not be able to reverse it entirely, but it's likely that you can build stronger bones that will withstand possible injuries. This is important when you suffer from such a condition because even slight injuries could be life threatening.
Common sense tells us that anyone with this condition should be careful when exercising, but consuming calcium, especially coral calcium, getting regular bone density tests, and having regular contact with your doctor, can give you everything you need to be able to manage this condition.
Understanding the hype surrounding Coral Calcium
With all the hype surrounding calcium and nutritional supplements as a whole, we decided to see for ourselves whether or not there is actually any real health benefit of consuming coral calcium supplements.
So, we got together and did some extensive research on the benefits of calcium in general, and more specifically, we looked in to the benefits of coral calcium.
We came to some conclusions based on our findings regarding coral calcium. The fact is a lot more real scientific research around coral calcium is definitely needed – that’s a fact and always the case. However, we did find some interesting facts and other points that we feel is important to consumers of nutritional supplements. Based on our research, here is what we found out..
Our Conclusions On Coral Calcium Based on What Is Known Today...
As always, a lot of what we read and know about the benefits of coral calcium is mainly just hoopla and hype.
Having said this, as you may already know, calcium, in dietary or supplement form does actually have some real benefits to your overall health.
Moreover – there are additional benefits from consuming coral calcium that we will talk about below – benefits that make using coral calcium above other calcium a very good idea.
By now, most of us will likely know the main basic benefits of calcium in general; most of us have had it drummed in to our heads since we were children in various countries. Calcium helps give us strong bones, which can help prevent osteoporosis, give us strong teeth, as well as healthy hair and nails.
We discovered in our detailed research that calcium is needed by every cell in your body! Next to water and air, calcium is the next most substance that is commonly found in our bodies.
A portion of the calcium within your body also keeps your muscles, nerves, and even your blood working the way they should.
Moreover, if you have a deficiency in calcium, you may well be at risk for getting one of the…
200 Known Diseases That Have Been Linked to Not Consuming Enough Calcium!
We also discovered that the human body can not heal itself in the same way when there is not enough calcium available. The healing ability of our internal systems is slowed and made worse when there is not enough calcium present.
One of the main benefits we discovered from our extensive research is that calcium promotes healing – if you lack calcium in your system, a wound, or even a simple graze will take much longer to heal when there is little calcium present.
We found out that calcium may be able to help relieve many of the symptoms that come with PMS. Although there is still more research needed on this, we also found out that it may be an effective alternative to taking antidepressants, especially for woman, as it has been found to lift moods without the harmful side effects.
The fact is calcium plays a major role in keeping your body functioning correctly, it helps prevent diseases, and it also helps with the healing and digestive processes. Calcium is vitality important for our health as a whole.
The Benefit of Coral Calcium
The calcium we consume daily, coral calcium – provides you with such benefits mentioned above, however, it also adds its own unique benefits. Let’s take a look at some of these benefits below:
1. Coral Calcium helps to give us strong bones
2. A known benefit of coral calcium is strong teeth
3. Coral calcium plays a crucial role in providing healthy hair
4. Coral calcium plays a crucial role in providing healthy nails
5. Detailed research has shown Coral calcium helps prevent osteoporosis
6. It is well known that Coral calcium keeps your muscles, nerves, and blood working properly
7. Coral calcium is a crucial nutrient that promotes healing
8. A further benefit of coral calcium is that it: may help with weight loss
9. As we discussed above, Coral calcium: may relieve PMS symptoms without the side effects of antidepressants
10. The final benefit of coral calcium is that it helps prevent the 200 other diseases that have been related to calcium deficiencies
Now, we are going to discuss the four major benefits that are specifically related to Coral Calcium. We have learnt that you only get these benefits with coral calcium. They are bonus benefits that you wouldn’t get by consuming a regular calcium supplement, or by consuming regular calcium through your diet.
To be honest, these benefits are definitely exciting because professional studies have shown that we as human beings, only actually absorb around 30% of the dietary calcium we consume! Of course, this varies from person to person, but that is the average.
We are now going to take a look at these benefits in detail and show you how these can be extremely benefit to your health..
Coral Calcium Bonus Benefit No 1: Coral Calcium is unique in that it Contains 70+ Additional Trace Minerals
As well as Coral calcium, most above sea coral calcium supplements contain 70+ trace minerals as well.
If you don’t know what a trace mineral is, it’s just a mineral like iron or even potassium that is generally found in very small amounts. Our bodies naturally contain many of these trace minerals and they are not actually fully understood when it comes to their function.
If you don’t know already, calcium needs to work with these trace minerals in order to help your body stay healthy and fight off disease. We personally believe that it is better for your health as a whole if you consume coral calcium that already contains these trace minerals. Most people try to get them separately from another supplement.
The exact benefits of these trace minerals are not fully known by scientists around the world. We believe however, that there is enough evidence to say that it is best to take these trace minerals in the proportions they appear in the body and in coral calcium, which we have found to be very similar.
Coral Calcium Bonus Benefit No 2 Your Internal Acid/Alkaline Balance is improved with Coral calcium
You may have done this in chemistry class when you were younger: Many lemon juices have an acidic nature, where as milk is alkaline. We can measure how acidic or alkaline any food we consume is by looking and measuring its PH level. Like the tests that are done on many pools and lakes across the world.
When you’re a young child, your body fluids are alkaline. However, when we grow older, many people lose calcium and other important minerals and this can cause our bodily fluids to become more acidic.
Many scientists think that acidic fluids lead to far less oxygen in our cells, and because of depleted oxygen levels, disease and accelerated aging can set in.
One of the benefits of consuming Coral calcium, which doesn’t happen with normal calcium, is that it causes your fluids to become more alkaline. What this means is that your body has far more oxygen in its bodily fluids, and because of this, it should help the ravages of unwanted aging and nasty diseases.
There are books dedicated on this topic, however, far more research is definitely needed before there are any concrete conclusions.
Coral Calcium Bonus Benefit No 3 Coral Calcium and Weight Loss
We would love to say that yeah, take calcium, and that’s it, you’ll slim right down, shred those unwanted pounds, automatically without any effort.
However, no magic bullet exits that can make you lose weight in this way. However..
One particular study by the U.S. National Institutes of Health has shown that one of the benefits of calcium could be weight loss.
In the study above, those who were overweight tended to eat small amounts of calcium. Those who lost a lot of weight ate the most calcium. Moreover, people who consumed the most calcium lost the most fat in the mid body area.
So for those trying to lose weight, obtaining more calcium could be beneficial for you. The NIH still has more detailed research and studies to conduct, however, the results so far are promising.
What’s also important when you’re trying to lose weight is staying away from foods high in fat. For example, products that are dairy related, such as milk and cheese, which contains high levels of calcium, may not be the best way to go. Most people consume most of their calcium from these sources.
So, as you can see – another benefit of Coral calcium is it gives you all the calcium you need, with no fat and practically zero calories.
Coral Calcium Bonus Benefit No 4 Improved Bio-Availability
'Bio-availability' is just a big word that means how much of the calcium you take actually becomes available to your body to use.
If you take a calcium supplement that only has 50% bio-availability, for example, you're going to have to take twice as much of that supplement -- and pay twice the price -- for the same amount of calcium that will end up being used by your body.
Another of the benefits of coral calcium over garden-variety calcium supplements is that coral calcium becomes ionic when it gets wet -- and calcium has to be ionic (and has to be with Vitamin D3 and other minerals in your bloodstream) for your body to absorb it.
Another way to describe this benefit is to say that coral calcium is much more absorbable than other calcium supplements. This means that your body can take better advantage of the health benefit of calcium more generally.
The negativity surrounding Coral Calcium
While there is a lot of negativity out there surrounding coral calcium, many health enthusiasts are missing out some key pieces of information when they render coral calcium as useless.
There are two types of coral calcium:
• Sea coral calcium (also known as marine coral calcium, or below sea coral calcium) -- which is harvested from below the sea.
• Fossilized coral calcium (also known as above sea coral calcium) -- which is harvested from coral calcium deposits that lie above the sea.
Here we will look at both types of calcium and show you how one type of coral calcium is far from useless when taking in the correct dosages
We strongly prefer fossilized coral calcium to sea coral calcium. There are several reasons that are based on our detailed research, and we're going to go through them now.
There are many myths, and to be honest, a large amount of false information what is going around about calcium as a whole.
Once you've learned more about sea coral calcium, we suspect you'll agree that fossilized coral calcium is the way to go.
The Sea Coral Calcium Collection Process
Large dredges vacuum the ocean's floor and pull up sea coral calcium. But the vacuuming process also brings up sand, shells, and other material.
There's no easy way to separate the sand from the coral, and that leads to the first problem with sea coral calcium.
Purity
Because sea coral calcium is composed of coral calcium mixed in with sand and other debris, it simply isn't as pure as fossilized coral calcium. Some estimates put sea coral calcium as only having 20-24% calcium content, while fossilized coral calcium has 37%.
And if the prospect of eating processed sand doesn't give you pause, maybe this next fact will: Raw sea coral calcium looks like everyday brown sand mixed with shells and coral. After it's processed, it can look different if it's bleached white.
Nonetheless, this is frankly not the main reason that we prefer above sea coral calcium to sea coral calcium. To learn what we think is more important, read on...
Pollutants
The seas off of Japan, as with the seas near any industrialized country, are very polluted. Japan seas are swimming with toxic heavy metals, like mercury and arsenic. Sea coral calcium is basically sitting in this mix of toxic chemicals.
Now, it's true that sea coral calcium is treated to destroy these toxic chemicals, but fossilized coral calcium is exposed to no toxic chemicals at any time.
Independent studies show some sea coral calcium contains lead.
And, as you'll see, the sea coral calcium treatment has its own problems...
Heat Treatment
In order to burn off and destroy the toxic heavy metals in raw sea coral calcium, the companies must heat it to over 1,000 degrees.
Sound good?
Well, one of the benefits of coral calcium is that it contains 70+ trace elements and minerals in addition to the basic calcium. These trace elements and minerals exist in our bodies, and while scientists don't know their exact function, many believe that these elements and minerals can only be a positive addition to our health.
Heating sea coral calcium to 1,000 degrees destroys most of these trace elements and minerals -- just like it destroys the toxic heavy metals.
Basically, the very method used to make sea coral calcium safe is also destroying some of the very benefits coral calcium provides.
Heat Treatment Side Effects
As we mentioned, in order to rid the marine coral calcium of its toxic heavy metals and other pollutants, companies must heat it to over 1,000 degrees. This destroys the trace elements and minerals that make coral calcium special.
But the heat treatment also has another side effect.
Coral calcium naturally occurs in the 'aragonite crystal form.' When you heat marine coral calcium to over 1,000 degrees, it changes from aragonite to the calcite form.
Studies show that processed marine coral calcium is 6 times less bio-available to the body as a result. This means it's not as easily available to your body to make use of it -- all because it has to be treated to get rid of its pollutants.
Bleaching
As we also mentioned, marine coral calcium is brown in its natural collected state (and has sand and shells that are mixed in). Many companies marketing marine coral calcium bleach it so that it's white.
This bleaching adds yet another refining process that takes the end product further away from coral calcium. Does this matter? We don't know -- there is no research we've found on this.
Environmental Effects
With news about ecological devastation around the world, many of us are concerned about the environment. We'd rather eat dolphin-friendly tuna, meat from animals that haven't been cooped up in tiny pens (unless of course we're vegetarian, in which case we wouldn't eat these animals at all!) and fruits and vegetables that haven't been sprayed with all manner of chemicals.
Marine coral calcium is basically collected by lowering a large pipe to the ocean floor and vacuuming everything up in its path.
Many marine coral companies say they collect the coral near the coral reefs (this makes sense, since that's where the coral would be).
Nonetheless, this process throws up silt (clouds of tiny debris), which may end up smothering the coral reefs and killing the tiny organisms that make future coral reefs grow.
This means that marine coral calcium collection practices may be destroying some coral reefs and preventing others from being grown.
Now, the companies selling marine coral calcium claim that companies selling fossilized coral calcium have misled the public by implying that they are harming the reefs. For example, Robert Barefoot writes:
"As a result of competition, those companies selling fossilized coral feel compelled to mislead the public into thinking that because they remove their coral from the beaches they are not harming the coral reefs, implying that those collecting the marine coral from the seabed must be harming the reefs. The truth is that the 'harvesting' of the marine coral is done under the strict supervision of the Japanese Government who enforces their regulations by severe criminal penalties if the slightest damage occurs to the coral reefs."
He may or may not be right -- there is no unbiased research we could find on this topic.
So, is this an environmentally unfriendly process? We don't know. We've read a number of compelling arguments that suggest it is environmentally unfriendly. Yet, these could be wrong.
However we do know that collecting fossilized coral calcium does not harm the environment.
So, you can draw your own conclusions.
Fossilized coral calcium
Fossilized coral calcium comes from coral reefs, like marine coral calcium. But it's many, many thousands of years old. Back then, as the coral reefs grew, they pushed upwards, and eventually the coral reefs broke the surface. The above sea coral calcium dried and became fossilized coral calcium.
The Fossilized Coral Calcium Collection Process
Instead of dredging up the ocean, companies harvesting fossilized coral calcium simply mine it above the surface. There's no sand or other debris to get mixed in with the fossilized coral calcium, and it remains pure.
As we said, fossilized coral calcium tends to have 37% calcium content, while marine coral calcium is only 20-24%.
Pollutants and Heat Treatment
Thousands of years ago was the pre-industrial age, so the extensive pollution in the water that we have today did not exist. The coral reefs that pushed their way above the water were pristine and pure of any heavy metals or other contaminants.
Since they remained above the water to this day, they're more pure than marine coral calcium, and they don't require the same harsh treatment.
Fossilized coral calcium is usually treated with ozone to kill off any bacteria, but it is not subjected to the 1,000+ degree heat treatment that destroys the 70+ beneficial trace elements and minerals which make coral calcium so unique.
Because fossilized coral calcium isn't heat-treated, it also remains in its aragonite crystal form -- which means it's much more easily absorbed and usable by your body than marine coral calcium.
Environmentally Friendly
Coral calcium is extracted by mining the above surface fossilized coral calcium. The process doesn't harm any marine life. Whereas it is still unclear whether harvesting marine coral calcium is environmentally unfriendly, we have heard of no environmental problems caused by harvesting fossilized coral calcium.
Inaccurate Information About Fossilized Coral Calcium
Proponents of marine coral calcium usually make two inaccurate arguments about why it is superior to above sea coral calcium:
1. They claim that fossilized coral calcium has been "washed up on to beaches" and "has lost some of its mineral content by weathering." We have seen absolutely no proof whatsoever that this is true -- it is made as a completely unsubstantiated claim.
However, even if this claim is true (and again, we have found no evidence for it), our feeling is that we'd rather take coral calcium that was a little weaker but didn't have all of the contaminants, lead and heat treatment problems we found with marine coral calcium.
The second claim is about magnesium and the supposedly perfect 2:1 calcium magnesium ratio.
Some promoters will tell you that the ideal ratio of magnesium to coral is 2 parts calcium to 1 part magnesium. Of course, their product contains this 2:1 ratio.
The Truth About Calcium Magnesium Supplements
Scientists and other experts are very divided when it comes to calcium magnesium supplements.
Some, like the promoters we mentioned, say that the 2:1 ratio is ideal for any calcium magnesium supplement.
However, we could find no scientific validation of this "idealness" claim whatsoever.
Other scientists say there should be no magnesium at all in calcium supplements -- and this makes sense, because calcium and magnesium are antagonists (they work against each other in a way).
In other words, they believe that calcium supplements should contain no (or little) magnesium.
In spite of claims to the contrary, independent scientists have not discovered this 2:1 ratio for calcium magnesium supplements in any coral samples.
And the Okinawans have only 3% magnesium naturally occurring in their coral calcium -- which is very different than the 2:1 ratio that is claimed for the ideal calcium magnesium supplements.
So nobody has a definite answer. The truth is that coral calcium products can work well whether they follow the coral calcium magnesium 2:1 ratio or not.
In summary, our conclusion from our research is that fossilized coral calcium is a much better alternative than marine coral calcium and any other calcium available.
Are there any side effects?

Are you purchasing from a reputable company that sells a wide array of health supplements and has the company been in business for some time?
Many companies on the market selling vitamins and minerals are no more than middle men. You will find that they purchase bulk raw ingredients from a wholesale distributor and have little quality control.
Some companies buy supplements already packaged in an unlabeled bottle and add their own label, this is appalling to be honest, and it’s surprising these companies get away with it; after all, it’s us as consumers who are the ones that suffer. Moreover, many calcium supplements have been found to contain traces of led in them!
This is why it is extremely important you look for a natural calcium supplement that can actually benefit your health that follows pharmaceutical grade compliance, such manufacturing standards are far more stringent than those of the FDA. You are also ensuring you are getting a product that is all natural and contains what is stated on the label.
Some companies have even be found to dilute the active ingredients in order to increase profits. Random samples by consumer groups have shown that many supplements being sold do not contain what is printed on the label. Reputable companies guarantee quality, content and customer satisfaction. Learn more about this industry wide problem from a no less an authority than the FDA here.
Does the formula represent value for money
As a comparison, it is interesting to note that some products containing only Vitamin K2, in the same dosage as the Vitamin K2 in Bone-Protec, actually cost more than our formula, even with all our added nutrients! As an example, a popular K2 supplement sold by Dr Mercola costs US$39.95 which is over a third more than a full bottle of Bone-Protec and yet they both have the same amount of K2!
